Following their successful premiere and the consecutive sold-outs, the Caryatids return with the Eleusinian Mysteries for a few performances in Room 3A.
The essence and deeper meaning of the nine days of the most famous ritual of ancient times, the revered Great Mysteries of Demeter and Kori, come alive through acting, sounds and melodies of invocations, celebrations, prayers and poetic initiation. The musical performance of RODA pays tribute to the city of Eleusis, European Capital of Culture for 2023, giving the audience the opportunity to experience and directly participate in the live vibration of the mysteries of the Eleusinian initiatory process.
Following a long and meticulous investigation and study of every philosophical, spiritual and archeological aspect of the Eleusinian Mysteries, RODA’s musical performance dramatizes the leading ancient Mysteries of agrarian cult which, according to Homer, were revealed by the goddess herself so as, through the parable of the seed that falls into the earth and then blooms, human spirit might be appeased from the pain and despair of the seemingly stalemate prospect of death.
RODA theater, founded by Maria Peretzi, has created and has been continuously serving the tradition of the Theater of the Sacred for the last thirty years. The quality of its productions has been recognized by rave reviews of the Greek Press as well as international media, such as CNN, which featured RODA’s work in three separate global reports. RODA has received a “Karolos Koun” acting praise (Dimitris Gasparatos, in “Gilgamesh”, 2014), and its way of working has been captured in the award-winning documentary “Into the Centre of the Wheel” (Thessaloniki Film Festival, 2017). In RODA’s performances, the music is always live, performed by an eight-piece band.
