With this monumental visionary production, Roda Theater brings to life the essence and the profound meaning of the nines days of the most famous ceremonies of ancient Greece, the Great Mysteries of Eleusis.

Starting with the representation of the Great Procession departing from Athens, this musical theater performance by Roda revives the sacred traditions of the Ceremonies, presenting spectators with the opportunity to live moments of a unique experience and of directly partaking in the vibration of the Eleusinian initiation process.

Paying respect to every aspect of these Ancient Events, and unfolding their philosophical, mystical and archaeological facts, Roda presents a ground breaking theatrical version of the Mysteries.

Through the parable of the seed entering the earth in order to bloom, the spirit of the initiates is appeased from the despair brought about by the seemingly dead-end prospect of death.

At Roda performances, the music is always live, performed by an eight-member orchestra.

With this production, Roda pays homage to the city of ELEUSIS, European Capital of Culture 2023.

Roda Theater is under the aegis of the CLUB FOR UNESCO OF PIRAEUS AND ISLANDS and INTERNATIONAL ACTION ART.

The “Eleusinian Mysteries” are yet another example of the persistent and painstaking exercise – work of RODA THEATER, which zealously observes the “rule” of theatrical methexis and allows an operatic text to take us to the border of tragedy. This ensemble performance, with 27 equal actors-performers, with perfectly developed and coordinated movement, with marvelous hand-made costumes-stage, music, lights, all οf them created by the group, and with an imposing sound, really gave us a two hours of aesthetic and spiritual enjoyment.

In its theatrical and musical productions, Maria Peretzi, the creator of Roda, demonstrates, with almost religious reverence, the richness of our common cultural heritage in all its depth and detail. She is building the tradition of the THEATER of THE SACRED through the previous productions of “Travel of Sound”, “Gilgamesh” , “Ramayana”, “Amphiaraos”, “Alcibiades, Saint”, “Tempest” and now with the “Eleusinian Mysteries”.

One of the many accomplishments of the musical theater performance of “Eleusinian Mysteries” is that it fully brings out the human element and, equally, the divine in its entire majestic metaphysical dimension. The festive and sensual character of the Procession paves the way for the mysterious, enhanced by the melodies of the music ensemble. Maria Peretzi manages to reconstruct the  atmosphere of these ancient times and, almost magically, to let you feel them, making you recognize something familiar inside you.
